TRANSLATIO IMITATIO AEMULATIO
Visual identity exhibition, LUCA School of Arts, Individual project, 2017.
Translatio, imitatio, aemulatio is a (fictive) retrospective exhibition in
S.M.A.K. at Ghent. The visitor is challenged to look at Classicistic art in an
analytical way. Artists tried to copy, imitate or transcend
the classic example.
Translatio, imitatio, aemulatio. These
concepts have an increasing appreciation for the result. The design of this
exhibition is based on the visual language of a classical temple. The temple
was deconstructed into its basic forms. Each basic form was given a figure
number by analogy with the first encyclopaedia. Through deconstruction and
abstraction, the visual design also tries to achieve Aemulatio.
